Spotting the signs that a child is struggling or unwell

Spotting the signs that your child is struggling or unwell

The World Health Organisation defines mental health as a state of well-being in which every individual achieves their potential, copes with the normal stresses of life, works productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to their community. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel and act.

Often child mental health difficulties are not obvious and can be missed as a result. We recommend that you be aware and alert to any shifts or changes in any child’s mental health.

Here are some warning signs to look out for:

  • Mood changes
  • Intense feelings
  • Behaviour changes
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Physical symptoms
  • Physical harm
  • Substance abuse

If you are worried about your child and want some support, please get in touch on our helpline, on the bottom right hand side. We are always here to help you and your child.
